This week, we were honoured to join forces once again with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for the annual Godwin Lawson Memorial Tournament — a day that continues to be one of the most important dates in our calendar.
The tournament is held every year in memory of Godwin Lawson, a talented young footballer whose life was tragically taken by knife crime in 2010. Godwin’s passion for football and his determination to live positively are at the heart of everything we do. Through this event, we aim to share that spirit with young people, inspiring them to make positive choices and reject violence.
Held at Tottenham Hotspur’s world-class training centre, the day brought together boys’ and girls’ teams from across the community — and from other football club community organisations — to play, connect, and learn.
It was a joy to see the pitches alive with energy, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. Football has a unique ability to unite people, to build friendships, and to teach teamwork, respect, and resilience. These qualities are at the heart of creating safer and stronger communities, and this tournament is living proof of that.
We were delighted to welcome Ledley King, Spurs legend and club ambassador, who offered words of advice and encouragement to the young players. His presence and commitment to inspiring the next generation added something truly special to the day.
Our co-founders, Yvonne and Calvin, were there throughout the day. Yvonne gave a heartfelt speech, reminding everyone why we continue this work and how vital it is to keep Godwin’s message of hope alive. Calvin was there to support and engage with everyone, ensuring the day ran smoothly.
A special thank you also goes to Godwin’s siblings — Kazia, Faith, and Otis — who all played a vital role in helping on the day. Your energy, warmth, and dedication are an integral part of the Foundation’s spirit.
This event would not be possible without the hard work, generosity, and passion of so many people. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to:
Every match played, every conversation shared, and every smile on the pitch is part of Godwin’s legacy. His story continues to inspire young people to believe in themselves and to choose a path of hope and opportunity.
We left the tournament proud, inspired, and deeply grateful for the continued partnership with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. Together, we will keep working to create opportunities, spread vital anti-knife crime messages, and build a safer future for our young people.
